Proactive Tax Planning

Forward-looking tax strategy to minimize your liability and prepare for life's big financial decisions

What Is Tax Planning?

Tax preparation is a look in the rearview mirror. By the time you sit down to file, the tax year is already closed, the decisions are already made, and there are only a handful of moves left, mostly which deductions and credits to claim for things that already happened.

Between January 1st and your filing deadline, the tax code gives you very few levers to pull. But between January 1st and December 31st, while the year is still open, you have far more control: timing income and deductions, choosing how to structure a sale, deciding when to convert a retirement account, or catching a problem early enough to actually do something about it.

Tax planning is a mid-year (or pre-transaction) review of where you stand, so you can make informed decisions while they still matter, instead of just reporting the results the following spring.
